For 2 player, deal 8 cards. For 3 or more, deal 7.

Place deck face down and centered between players, this is the draw pile. Flip top card and place next to deck face up, this is the play pile.

8s are wild. (If teaching someone new, this is a nice starting point, then add other cards as their understanding grows.)

Jacks play again.

4s skip.

Aces reverse.

7s Ask any player if they have a 7. Player that is asked can lie.

2s draw 2 cards or play a 2. Aka Terrible 2s.

Play a card from your hand that matches the play pile either by card suit or number/letter. If you can't play then you must draw a card.

Last Card - You have to say out loud, "Last Card" when playing your second to last card. To clarify, if you have already placed your card down, and only have one card in your possession, you are now susceptible to the Last Card rule IF you did not previously mention you were getting to your Last Card. If you are caught, you must choose a card of the player's hand who caught you. They fan their cards faced away from you and you choose a card. You don't know what card you get until after you pick. Furthermore, if you have played your Last Card and someone notices that you didn't call it, they missed their chance and you won. Exceptions to this are when your Last Card is a special card that makes you do something in addition (e.g. Jack forcing you to play another card, but you have none, thus prompting you to draw from the draw pile and returning you to a new Last Card status, don't miss this.).

Other odd situations: If your Last Card is a 2, then you remain in position until that 2 is dead. Mainly to occur in 2 player mode, where player A plays a 2 as their Last Card, but player B plays a 2 instead of drawing 2. In this case, the 2 is live and player A has no cards and has to draw 4 cards, ouch.

Attempting to go out on a 7? Think again, you have to ask someone if they have a 7 and if they don't you'll have to play again and draw a card.
